Visa support

All foreign citizens who want to visit the Russian Federation, are required a visa. A visa is a document granting permission for entry into the Russian Federation as well as a transit passage through its territory, issued by a consular office in the country of a foreign citizen's residence. This is obtainable from the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, or the Russian Consulate General by submitting.

A visa is issued by virtue of a visa support or invitation registered by a organization through the Passport and Visa Department, or by virtue of a tourist voucher from an authorized Russian travel company, or directly from a Russian hotel, showing a reference number and a confirmation number for the visa.

Please bear in mind that the letter of invitation (visa support) and the visa are two different things. You must first apply for a visa suport, then you must apply for a visa. Tourist invitation from a registered company consists of official confirmation, and a voucher for accommodation bearing the reference number for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This may be faxed from a registered organisation in Russia.
